I was watching the Honda Classic today and can't wait for nicer weather to go out and hit some balls.  I love to play golf.  New Mexico actually has some really nice courses that aren't that expensive.  So what are some of your favorite courses and why?

One of my favorite courses is Sandia Golf Course.  It is a desert designed course.  There is a lot of garbage (tumbleweeds, rattlesnakes, cactus, dirt) around the fairway and often you have to hit over this crap to reach the fairway or green.  It is a beautiful corse absolutely gorgeous and is quite difficult.  Green fees are $65 or there abouts.

I have many.....all played by me.

Double Eagle, very private near Columbus, Weiskopf.....13 stimp greens.....gorgeous....shot 81. Your money is no good here.

The Wilds, public in Bloomington, Minn, did not like the OB on both sides of the holes...that's too penal.  Cost $100.  Shot 80

The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, very expensive - guessing $300 by now?  Shot 78.

Muirfield Village, Dublin OH, awesome beauty.......very private.  Shot 83.

Amana Colonies, Amana, Iowa, beautiful course....all for $50.  Best round 75.  No room for error.

Finkbine, Univ of Iowa course, about $50.  Best round 68. Was on fire that day.

Shaker Run, Lebanon, OH.....this is where Michelle Wie played in the US Public Links event.  About $60.  Best round 78.

I played at least 20 courses in Myrtle Beach....alll pretty good.

TPC at Sawgrass.....quirky, expensive, 17 is fun - I parred it and was happy...made 7 on 18 was still happy.  Shot 85.  Second time around would have been better...made a bunch of tee shot errors - wrong club.

Oh, and Torrey Pines,  great course..... shot the temperature that day....78.

Tree Tops in Michigan is nice, a little expensive....

Stonehenge, in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee is pretty....don't remember what I shot.....

I am embarassed....How could I forget all the Donald Ross courses I have played.....including Pinehurst....if you ever get a chance to play Ross courses they are a must.  Tillinghast and Jones are great too.

And I did play Bethpage Black.....That is fun but the forced carry on some tee shots was more than I could handle with the wind that day.

Tough to say which course is my favorite. I started when I was 11 and played all over the country. But I can tell you the toughest course I ever played was the Lagoon Legend course at Mariott's Bay Point Resort in Panama City, Fla. Right on the ocean and the wind was a killer. About 6900 yds with trouble everywhere. Longest week of my life....on the golf course that is. Tougher than sawgrass and doral.....or at least the way I played made it seem that way. I had a chance to play Harbor Town a number of times....another great course. 18th hole is still one of the best finishing holes on the PGA Tour.

Most of my favorite courses, though are in the west. I've got my pick of the litter here in Phoenix with nearly 200 golf courses within an hour's drive.

AV, I played the Wilds back a while ago. Good course. My former roommate was from Minnesota and worked there for a couple of years.

Hey AV:

Nice post!  Good to have you posting about something other than, shall we say, "body image"!!
